Gerald Miranda: A Don Of Malaysia’s Ad Industry

Gerald Miranda, 72,was dedicated to his work at Invictus Blue ad agency (formerly Zenith Media) that he founded in 1994 – turning up for work almost every day till he was called away and leaving his sole child Keith Miranda as the outfit’s group managing director.

During his stint of three decades, he achieved greatness as a media consultant by sheer dint of his assiduousness and focus in his chosen field. Whie he started as an articled clerk in Peat Marwick Mitchell (reconstituted as KPMG in 1987), he fortuitously found his vocation in advertising & marketing later as COO of Bates – where he left his mark as the top performer in an Advanced Management Program conducted by Bates Worldwide in France.

Subsequently, Gerald was the brainchild for Zenith’s entry into Malaysia as CEO of Zenith Malaysia. As a member of the prestigious Chartered Institute of Marketing, he nurtured the growth of the company to the zenith of Malaysian media specialisation and was acknowledged in the industry as advertising’s ‘Man for all seasons’

Rising from his humble roots in the Sentul community and attending La Salle Sentul (LSS), he was a regular at St Joseph’s Church Sentul where he served as an altar server, choirboy & (a brief stint as a) church organist until academic & career pursuits beckoned.

Music continued to be a passion with him keeping an electric drum set at home as he loved rock ‘n roll and was always the life of the party at family gatherings. Among his favourite bands were Jethro Tull and Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin and BeeGees, Cream and also guitarist Jimi Hendrix.

Always enjoying the best in life, and nicknamed Robin in famiy circles, he savoured single malt whiskies from all over and indulged in mutton curries – which he was regaled with as he was the go-to person for the family members needing personal advice.
