Alithia Ramirez loved to draw — and express herself through her sketches.
She had submitted a drawing to Doodle for Google, her father, Ryan Ramirez, told KSAT-TV.
But before that outcome was known, Alithia and 20 others had their lives cut short in a mass shooting at her Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, 2022.
Prior to her passing, Alithia had also shared her love for art and soccer with her best friend, Nico Escalante, who was struck and killed by a car in Grand Prairie last year.
Alithia tried to use artwork to provide solace to Nico’s parents after their son’s death.
“I made a drawing for you and the family to know that our friendship was special and that he will always be by my side,” Alithia wrote in a message to Nico’s parents.
She sent them a drawing of their son sketching in heaven, while she herself was drawing on earth.
“I never imagined that this little girl would be mature enough to say, ‘Hey, you know what, I want to keep in touch. I want to check in. I want to make [you a] painting and bring a smile to your face,’” Fernanda Sedeno, Nico’s mom, told CBS. “That’s what I loved about her, and that shows how pure and kind her heart was.”
In her official obituary, Alithia’s family described her as a smart, talented, reliable, extremely loving young lady who dreamt of attending art school in Paris.
“She was very reliable, always wanted to take care of everyone, and was a role model to her siblings. She also loved to play soccer,” they said.
